‘Computer says no’: what the papers say after IT outage causes global chaos | Microsoft IT outage

Saturday’s headlines were dominated by the impact of an IT outage that grounded flights around the world, knocked television stations off the air and wreaked havoc on health services, banking and retail.

The outage was caused by a botched software upgrade by US company CrowdStrike, which affected Microsoft’s Windows operating system and caused employees’ computers to fail to boot and experience “blue screens of death.”

“Recovery from global IT outage could take weeks,” Guardian Airlines, healthcare providers and retailers have been “disrupted by glitches in software upgrades,” he added.
