Conan O’Brien expressed gratitude to Leslie Jones following her candid remarks about President Donald Trump on her latest podcast. “It was therapeutic,” the former late-night host mentioned.
During her feature on his show, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Jones stated, “Trump is awful, but he came here and demonstrated he’s not as formidable as we believe.”
“He keeps saying, ‘They aren’t going to take action. They will just complain. That’s all they do.’ Meanwhile, Democrats seem to enter a serious situation carrying a cake,” the Ghostbusters actress added.
She further commented, “The older Democrats need to step aside. Let the more progressive, assertive ones take charge and tackle this the right way.”
Jones continued, “We’re afraid of someone, yet we can’t pinpoint why. We look at this glaring issue, which reflects how our community is so focused on fitting in that we lose sight of our identity.”
“We are a community. Are we going to stand and watch everything fall apart, or are we going to take action?” she questioned.
“As comedians, we contribute to that. When we perform, we strive to make people laugh intensely. You need that hour of tranquility. That’s our role,” she explained.

Jones emphasized that a comedian’s role is to “offer an escape from your troubles for a bit and perhaps bring some laughter.”
“I leave the stage thinking, ‘It’s not so bad,’ and that performer just shared experiences similar to mine,” the 58-year-old remarked. “To everyone, please step outside, experience nature, and switch off your television.”
“I apologize if I’m preaching,” Jones admitted, to which O’Brien replied, “No, that was insightful. It felt healing.”
She then joked with O’Brien, who previously hosted Late Night with Conan O’Brien, saying, “People suggest I should run for president, but I’m too difficult.” She whimsically added that if in charge, she’d consider drastic measures for death row inmates.
