Conan O’Brien Reflects on Loss of Friends Rob and Michelle Reiner
Conan O’Brien has shared his thoughts on the tragic deaths of his friends, Rob and Michelle Reiner, who were found dead in December 2025. In a recent interview, he described the shock he felt when he learned of their passing on December 14, shortly after they had attended a holiday gathering with their son, Nick.
O’Brien recounted how, over time, he and his wife grew close to the Reiners. “We saw them often and they were truly kind people,” he reflected. “One moment you’re saying goodnight, and the next day they’re gone.” He expressed that he remained in shock for quite some time, struggling to comprehend the suddenness of it all. “It’s really hard to understand. Rob had such a strong voice, especially when it came to the issues in our country,” he added.
The Reiners were discovered in their Brentwood home, and their son, Nick, was arrested the same day, facing two counts of first-degree murder. Sources indicated that an altercation had taken place at O’Brien’s Christmas party, during which Nick reportedly exhibited erratic behavior, alarming the guests. “He kept asking people if they were famous,” a source mentioned.
In his interview, O’Brien also praised Rob’s impressive body of work, highlighting his ability to create classics in a short span. “If you can make one great movie, that’s amazing,” he noted, reflecting on Rob’s contributions like “Spinal Tap” and “When Harry Met Sally.” O’Brien described the impact these films had on his generation.
The Reiners’ legacy includes not just their cinematic achievements but also their family. Following their deaths, their children, Jake and Romy, expressed gratitude for the public’s support. “No one should have to experience the loss of our parents,” they stated, emphasizing their parents’ roles as both caregivers and best friends.
