The Congressional Hispanic Caucus has voiced its support for President Biden amid growing calls for him to withdraw from the presidential race.
Party Chair Nanette Barragan (D-Calif.) and Vice Chair Adriano Espaillat (D-New York) A statement was issued On Monday night, they vowed to support Biden and Vice President Harris’ reelection efforts. Their statement came as Biden and his team try to quell the backlash they received from last month’s poor performance in a debate with former President Trump.
“We support President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris,” caucus leaders said in a statement. “Over the past year and a half, the Biden-Harris Administration has partnered with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’ efforts to bring CHCs to the road. Through this work, we have worked to empower Hispanic communities across the country.”
The caucus traveled last week with First Lady Jill Biden to Allentown, Pennsylvania, where more than half of the residents are Hispanic, according to the statement. Caucus leaders also noted that Biden has worked to make “historic investments” in communities across the country, including Hispanic communities.
They also pointed to an immigration relief package announced by President Biden last month that helps spouses of certain U.S. citizens who meet certain conditions remain in the country.
“We look forward to our continued partnership on the roads and legislative victories that benefit the American people,” the lawmakers wrote.
The endorsement from the Hispanic Caucus comes after members of the Congressional Black Caucus also endorsed Biden after the debate. Biden met with members of the Congressional Black Caucus on Monday night, where the campaign said they would “discuss the importance of the 2024 election and our shared determination to defeat Donald Trump in November.”
