Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, came under fire on social media on Tuesday when she sided with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and said impeachment should not be used for retaliation.

The House Homeland Security Committee met Tuesday to advance two articles of impeachment against Mayorkas, accusing him of refusing to abide by immigration laws and betraying the public’s trust. The vote is expected to take place later in the day and is likely to be partisan, with the article moving to a vote in the House of Commons at a later date.

As Republican committee members continued their attacks on Mayorkas, Jackson Lee turned to social media to express his position on the issue.

“Impeachment is not a tool used for revenge. #RevengeImpeachment,” Jackson Lee posted on X.

Some tried to remind Jackson Lee that Democrats used impeachment to retaliate against former President Trump.
