Connecticut housefire kills 3, including baby; foul play suspected

Police in Connecticut say they are investigating a third person’s death in a fire that also killed an 8-month-old infant as a crime.

The fire was reported at around 6 p.m. Wednesday at a home in Wallingford, about 22 miles north of New Haven.

Police and fire officials initially said they found a man with severe burns outside the home and was taken to a hospital’s burn center in critical condition.

Police said a preliminary investigation by local and state police, the fire marshal and the local state attorney’s office determined the fire appeared to be a criminal act. Police on Friday classified all three deaths as suspicious.

Authorities did not provide details or announce any arrests, but said there was no threat to the public.
