British welterweight Conor Benn has had his provisional suspension reinstated following a successful appeal by UK Anti-Doping (Ukad) and the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC).
Ukado has responded to the Independent National Anti-Doping Commission’s decision to acquit Benn after he failed two voluntary drug tests in 2022 and was suspended in March 2023. He had filed an appeal.
BBBoC General Secretary Robert Smith said Ben was provisionally prohibited from participating in any capacity in any competition sponsored, convened, sanctioned or approved by the BBBoC “or any other World Anti-Doping Code compliant sport”. Ta.
“Ukad and BBBoC have succeeded in their respective appeals against the decisions rendered by the Independent National Anti-Doping Commission tribunal in July 2023,” he added. “Mr Benn’s interim suspension was reimposed by the Court of Appeal following a successful appeal.”
Mr Smith said the case remained with the independent National Anti-Doping Commission and would proceed in accordance with UK anti-doping rules.
There was no comment from Ben’s promoter Matchroom. The 27-year-old boxer had previously proclaimed his innocence over failing his test.
