Conor McGregor Eyes a High-Profile Return

Conor McGregor is making headlines again, this time with aspirations of stepping into the political arena. Originally eyeing a bid for the presidency in Ireland, he recently discussed his next big UFC return, which he claims will coincide with a significant anniversary event next year.

In a conversation with Sean Hannity, McGregor emphasized his readiness, stating, “Contracts, signs, delivery—it’s not a negotiation. It’s a completed transaction,” adding that he will compete at the White House in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

The UFC star had previously mentioned a hefty price tag of $100 million plus a 100 golden visa as part of his demands to feature on the UFC’s White House card, set for June.

While former UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones is also hoping for a prime spot on the card, it seems the promotion is leaning more toward McGregor, perhaps due to his star power.

It’s worth noting that McGregor hasn’t fought since suffering a serious leg injury in 2021, which left him with a broken tibia and fibula. Additionally, he’s faced legal troubles, including a civil lawsuit for sexual assault, for which he was found liable last July.

McGregor’s comeback had been on the horizon for 2024, targeting a match against Michael Chandler. However, he had to withdraw after sustaining toe injuries during training.

The proposed White House fight is not just notable for McGregor’s return; it also represents a significant promotional opportunity, especially with CBS airing the event. The UFC has secured a lucrative $7.7 billion broadcasting deal with CBS and Paramount+, moving on from its previous contract with ESPN.

This event is poised to be a big attraction for CBS, particularly with McGregor involved. However, organizing it won’t be without challenges. UFC president Dana White has noted that the octagon is so heavy it could damage the South Lawn’s grass, estimating potential restoration costs at around $700,000.

McGregor’s ambitions extend beyond the ring; during his earlier presidential pursuit, he met with President Trump at the White House, engaging with the media in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room.
