Conservative figures promise to persist following Charlie Kirk's assassination

Charlie Kirk’s Legacy After His Assassination

Following the shocking assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk this week, Fox News Digital reached out to various prominent conservative figures to discuss the future of the movement and what Kirk’s legacy might mean moving forward.

Heather Mac Donald, a fellow at the Manhattan Institute, emphasized that conservatives “will not be silent.” She stressed that others should look to Kirk’s courage as a model. “His courage is something we all should emulate,” she noted.

Columnist Bethany Mandel described Kirk’s death as a clear attempt to silence conservatives. “We can’t give in to that pressure,” she remarked, advocating for a more robust discussion and pushing back against efforts to stifle voices like Kirk’s.

Kirk was killed while addressing a crowd at Utah Valley University after being shot from a nearby roof. He was swiftly transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His passing drew reactions from conservatives worldwide, including President Trump, who referred to it as “a dark moment in America.” On Friday, law enforcement announced that they arrested Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old from Utah, in connection with the crime.

John Ashbrook, a conservative podcast host, shared with Fox News Digital that Kirk was a “good guy,” emphasizing that his legacy would endure as many remember his leadership and the voice he provided to countless individuals across the nation.

Mac Donald expressed it’s difficult to fathom the reasons behind Kirk’s assassination, questioning if it was solely due to his outspoken views on college campuses. She pointed out that it’s tragically poetic that such violence occurred at a university, often viewed as a breeding ground for suppressing free speech.

Mandel called for better security measures at events featuring conservative speakers, suggesting that discussions about America’s future and civil discourse should not require taxpayers to fund security concerns. “There shouldn’t be a need for extra protection for simply sharing political opinions,” she remarked.

Conservatives, including influencers like Ben Shapiro, remember Kirk’s unique approach to engaging in dialogue with those who oppose him. Shapiro stated, “We will never stop debating,” reiterating his commitment to continue speaking at colleges despite the dangers involved.
