Remembering Charlie Kirk: Impact on Young Conservatism
Leaders and commentators from the conservative sphere reflect on the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA. They highlight how he significantly influenced young conservatives and shaped the movement.
Established in 2012, Turning Point USA aims to “identify, educate, train and organize students to promote financial responsibility, free markets and limited government principles.”
Fox News Digital caught up with conservative voices like Rob Smith, Arynne Wexler, Lily Kate, and Amir Odom to discuss Kirk’s influence.
Political commentator Rob Smith credited Kirk for much of his own success in the conservative movement. “My entire career in conservatism is tied to Charlie Kirk,” he said. After connecting with Kirk, Smith found his platform expanding tremendously beyond mere social media.
Smith emphasized Kirk’s role in diversifying voices within the movement, noting his own journey as a “non-traditional conservative” as a black gay individual openly aligning with conservative values.
Arynne Wexler, a conservative commentator and speaker at Turning Point USA’s “Young Women’s Leadership Summit,” praised Kirk for fostering discussions on campuses. She remarked, “Charlie Kirk was committed to the next generation and refused to abandon university settings.” This commitment, according to her, inspires perseverance and engagement among young conservatives.
Lily Kate, a former Turning Point ambassador, called Kirk an “American original” and acknowledged the revival she believes is happening in the wake of his passing. She recounted how individuals have expressed renewed interest in spirituality and community thanks to his inspiration.
“Charlie inspired people to engage meaningfully—step away from screens, hold hands, and have real conversations,” Kate said.
Meanwhile, Amir Odom reflected on his experience at the Young Black Leadership Summit, emphasizing how Kirk encouraged young voices to be heard. “The movement is getting louder and more unified,” Odom noted.
As for the broader impact, there are signs of a surge in engagement as more chapters of Turning Point USA are being formed on campuses. “Now is the moment to ramp up our efforts and increase discussions,” Kate encouraged.
In light of Kirk’s influence, the turning of thousands of young individuals into leaders seems essential. “We need many more Mini Charlie Kirks,” Smith said. His values and character set an example that both young men and women can aspire to.
Turning Point USA announced on Thursday that Kirk’s wife, Erika Kirk, will take on the roles of CEO and chair of the board, honoring his vision even after his passing.
