Ralph Norman Launches Campaign for South Carolina Governor
Rep. Ralph Norman has officially entered the race for governor of South Carolina, confirming his candidacy on Friday. The announcement was made through his campaign and noted by House GOP lawmakers.
Norman, who is part of the Conservative Freedom Caucus, plans to kick off his campaign at an event in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Just this morning, his X account was updated to reflect his new slogan: “Ralph Norman for the Governor.”
He’s known for his fiscal conservatism, consistently aligning with his right-wing colleagues while advocating for more stringent conservative policies.
In a competitive Republican field, Norman joins other candidates such as South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lt. Col. Pamela Evett, and state Sen. Josh Kimbrell. There’s also talk that Rep. Nancy Mace is mulling her own gubernatorial run. Mace offered her support in a recent social media post, wishing Norman good luck.
Before his time in Congress, Norman had a background in commercial real estate, taking over the family business that his father had founded. He served in the South Carolina State Capitol from 2009 until he was elected to Congress in a special election in 2017.
Norman, a supporter of former Governor Nikki Haley, had previously backed her bid before she exited the race. He has since shifted his allegiance to President Donald Trump, emphasizing his connection during conversations about legislative initiatives.
It’s important to note that current Governor Henry McMaster is also allied with Trump and faces term limits at the end of 2026. So, the president’s influence could be pivotal in the upcoming GOP primary in South Carolina.
