Conservatives — most, at least — love to hate SNL.
It’s almost hard not to. SNL is routinely unfunny and cringe, especially when it pokes fun at President Donald Trump or MAGA supporters. The political jokes are tired, the bits are boring, and Alec Baldwin’s Trump impersonation is way too aggressive and sneery.
On the show’s 50th anniversary Saturday, Tom Hanks reprised his Trump-loving and racist Doug character, triggering outrage among conservatives. (Subscribe to MR. RIGHT, a weekly newsletter about modern masculinity)

Scott Jennings, CNN’s in-house conservative pundit, also lashed out at the skit, calling it “unbelievably offensive.”

Although it’s tempting, conservatives should refrain from attacking SNL with such vitriol. It makes them, dare I say, more like the left, and what makes the modern left so insufferable is that they are insufferably humorless. They are the front-row kids who ask too many questions, get peevish when their classmates don’t take the class seriously enough, and stay after to blow smoke up the teacher’s ***.
More than any actual policy, normal Americans were turned off by all the left-wing, finger-wagging scolds who claimed that every joke at the expense of someone else was “unbelievably offensive,” and therefore should be censored. Making fun of drag queen story hours? You’re a transphobic bigot. Hunter Biden jokes? How dare you mock a recovering drug addict. Say anything remotely negative about Kamala Harris’s intelligence: straight to the gulag.
Being thin-skinned and outraged over small things like a lame Tom Hanks bit is cringe and spiritually leftist. Conservatives should avoid it and rather embrace fun and humor if they want to keep the good times rolling long into Trump’s second term.
