Consider these possible call-ups for your fantasy baseball playoffs

September Baseball Insights

September brings an exciting buzz to baseball.

With major league rosters expanding, fans start to catch a glimpse of emerging talents on their favorite teams, and fantasy managers get the chance to pick up fresh players to rejuvenate their teams.

While many new faces have already been claimed in leagues, the minor league system continues to offer a lot of depth, meaning there are still some promising prospects worth watching.

Bringing up new players could enhance a team’s performance over the next few weeks, which is definitely beneficial in today’s competitive climate.

The Cardinals, however, have fallen out of playoff contention this year.

In light of this, promoting JJ Weatherholt, their top prospect, could be a smart move to give him some big league experience.

Weatherholt has been impressive, batting .312 with a .424 on-base percentage and .523 slugging, alongside 16 home runs and 21 stolen bases across 99 games between Double-A Springfield and Triple-A Memphis.

While the Cardinals technically don’t have to promote him—he’s safe from the Rule 5 draft this offseason—it might be beneficial for the new administration to let him gain some major league exposure.

In recent seasons, the management duo of John Mozeliac and Ollie Marmol hasn’t exactly excelled, not to mention the struggles with players like Thomas Suggese, who’s batting just .190, exacerbated by injuries to key players like Brendan Donovan and Nolan Arenado.

It’s a bit of a long shot, but definitely something worth considering.

Keep an eye on Angels outfielder Nelson Radha as well.

Radha has been performing well, hitting .333 with a .440 on-base percentage over his last ten games, featuring seven stolen bases. His recent stats—two doubles, a triple, and four RBIs—make him a noteworthy asset, especially when it comes to stolen bases.

That said, he doesn’t exactly provide much in the power department.

It’s important to remember that the Pacific Coast League is known for being hitter-friendly, and power doesn’t often translate well from Salt Lake to Los Angeles.

Keeping Track of Prospects

Yet, his impressive plate discipline and speed might make him a valuable player down the line.

With just a few weeks left in the season, it’s crucial for teams to evaluate minor leaguers and consider call-ups. While not every promotion pays off, it’s wise to explore these options as the fantasy season narrows down.
