Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe said Monday that although he was “not connected to this mass shooting” at a Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, the “context of gun ownership” requires major legal changes. he said on “News Central.”

McCabe said, “Well, Brianna, we're in the middle of nowhere. We're in the middle of nowhere because it's happening again. We know it's going to happen again. It happened today. I can guarantee it will happen again in the near future. And every time it happens, we do little. That doesn't mean there's nothing we can do. There is something we can do. We are changing the landscape of gun ownership in this country, emphasizing gun safety and responsibility for the firearms we own, keeping firearms out of the hands of children, and using very vigorous and consistent identification across the country. They could support and enact laws to conduct investigations. We can stop selling them. We can also eliminate the ability to buy guns without a background check. Now, we don't know if any of these factors are relevant to this shooting, but here they are. We are talking about big issues.”
He added: “These are things that impact the level of gun violence in our country, but the fact is we don't have the political will to improve this situation. We don't have it. As a people. You may feel frustrated and wonder, “What can I do?” What you can do is start supporting people who think like you about the need for improved gun safety, the need for improved school safety, and are passionate about the idea of reducing gun violence. That's it. But until we do that, we can't really change the fundamentals on this issue if we continue to send the same political calculations to Congress year after year. . That is the only thing we can do in a free and democratic society. We can legislate and try to make things better for everyone, or we can keep shaking our heads, turn off the TV, and wait for the next mass shooting. ”
