Control of the House still hanging in the balance

Although Republicans won the presidential election and regained a majority in the Senate, it remains unclear which party will control the House of Representatives.

As of this writing, the Republican Party safe Democrats won 192 seats compared to 206, according to the Associated Press. To secure a majority, any party must win at least 218 of the 435 seats in the lower house. Currently, 37 seats have yet to be called, meaning the majority could swing in either direction.

Republicans lead in 17 of the 37 seats, while Democrats lead in 20. Democrats have the lead in more uncontested elections, but only 12 of the 17 seats are enough for Republicans to maintain a majority.

Washington's 4th Congressional District has not yet been called, but a ranked-choice voting system will select one of two Republican candidates.

Chairman Mike Johnson reassured the party, saying he was confident Republicans would maintain their majority.
