Convenience Store Employee Disarms Alleged Armed Robber

A convenience store employee in Salt Lake City, Utah, disarmed an armed robbery suspect around or shortly after midnight Sunday.

FOX 13 Now reported Jimmy Gallegos, 19, and Odalys Garcia, 18, entered the store and “began looking at the merchandise,” police said. Garcia allegedly left the store and parked his car in a spot where Gallegos could have jumped in and fled.

Gallegos allegedly found a black mask for sale in the store and put it in, then asked for the price but refused to pay. The clerk stood in the doorway to try to prevent Gallegos from leaving the store, but as he did so, Gallegos reportedly pulled out a gun.

The employees struggled with Gallegos and took his gun.

KUTV noticed Garcia reportedly witnessed the altercation, ran back inside, sprayed employees with pepper spray, and attempted to help Gallegos escape.

Gallegos and Garcia then ran to their car, but arriving officers stopped them before they could drive off and arrested them.
