Former President Donald Trump appeared at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Monday wearing bandages and appearing to shed tears while listening to speeches.
Trump wore a white bandage over his right ear, which was shot while speaking at a rally on Saturday. The former president was seated next to Sen. J.D. Vance, a Republican from Ohio, who was recently selected as his running mate.
As he walked down the hallway, the convention audience erupted in thunderous applause and cheers, and even liberal commentators on CNN and MSNBC acknowledged the chilling excitement felt by the crowd as the former president made his entrance.
Viewers said Trump appeared humble and pensive as he watched the convention speakers.
Trump appeared far more defiant on Saturday after he was rushed off the stage after being shot in Butler, Pennsylvania. The suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot dead at the scene.
President Trump has said he is so troubled by the shootings that he plans to rewrite a speech planned for Thursday to urge Americans to heal divisions and come together.
“I’m not supposed to be here. I’m supposed to be dead,” Trump said in an interview Sunday.
