Thomas Root Jr. told prosecutors that on February 1, 2024, he opened fire at the Sports Page Bar in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, killing newlyweds Gina Weingart and Emerson Weingart, then ran into the cash register. He said he took less than $150 from the suspect and fled the scene.
new york post report Witnesses said Raut played video games at the bar for about 30 minutes, then pulled out a handgun and ordered the bartender, Gina, to stay still. Witnesses said Root also ordered Gina’s girlfriend’s husband not to move.
Police said, “The witness…instinctively stood up from the bar stool, and Loudt pointed the gun at the witness and ordered him not to move.”
Ludt then allegedly fired shots and the witness fled, ran out of the building and called 911.
Elkhorn Police Department I got it., “Rout was on parole for the arson charge and was taken into custody by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office at 3:40 a.m. Sunday, February 4, 2024, in the Department of Corrections jail without incident.” He admitted shooting Gina and her husband and “stated that the next morning he threw the weapon and ammunition in the trash can of a Handimart in Lake Como.” When police went to Handy Mart, they found a 9mm handgun in a trash can.
