Convicted killer of missing Kentucky mother Crystal Rogers argues trial was unjust

New Trial Request in Crystal Rogers Case

One of the three men convicted in connection with the mysterious death of Crystal Rogers in Kentucky is asking for a new trial. Joseph Lawson, found guilty of murder and conspiracy to tamper with evidence, claims that his trial was unfair.

Lawson was tried alongside Rogers’ boyfriend, Brooks Houck. Recently, Lawson’s attorneys pointed out that there were issues with how evidence was presented, particularly regarding statements made about Houck during the trial. They argue that this presentation may have influenced the jury’s decision, especially since Houck didn’t testify.

Earlier this month, a jury found the two men guilty of crimes associated with Rogers’ disappearance, which dates back to July 4, 2015. At the time, her vehicle was discovered abandoned on the Bluegrass Parkway, with personal items still inside. Unfortunately, her body has never been found.

The judges involved in the trial recommended lengthy sentences: Lawson received 25 years, while Houck was handed a life sentence, both needing to complete a substantial portion of their sentences before being eligible for parole.

Additionally, it has been reported that Lawson’s father, Steve Lawson, faced similar charges and is also serving a life sentence while pursuing legal action for his beliefs.

The next important hearing regarding Lawson and Houck is set for August 21st, but Lawson’s lawyer has yet to issue a response to recent developments.
