Cordarrelle Patterson reveals he was released by the Steelers on his day off

Cordarrelle Patterson Released by Steelers

Cordarrelle Patterson, the veteran utility player, shared on social media that he has been released by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 34-year-old Super Bowl champion, often nicknamed “Flash” for his speed and agility, humorously remarked about his release, calling it a situation where he felt “washed away,” which he tweeted about on Monday.

In his “Breaking News” tweet, he stated, “The Pittsburgh Steelers release an old washed-out Cordarrelle Patterson on his break!!!” and added several exclamation marks for emphasis.

When a follower commented that it took too long for this decision, Patterson replied, “Yeah! I said the same!” This response indicated his agreement with the sentiment expressed.

Patterson also interacted with NFL reporters Mike Galaforo and Ian Rapoport after he signed a two-year contract with the Steelers back in April.

He didn’t participate in the team’s offseason activities and missed the first four practices of training camp.

There’s a sense that Patterson might not remain a free agent for too long, despite his recent struggles. Last season, injuries limited him to just 13 games, and he accumulated 135 rushing yards on 32 attempts, averaging 4.2 yards per carry, alongside 80 receiving yards from 12 catches. He also returned 11 kicks for a total of 240 yards.

It’s interesting to note that retired quarterback Tom Brady previously referred to Patterson as “an experiment” during his career.

Having begun his career with the Minnesota Vikings as the 29th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Patterson had stints with the Raiders, the New England Patriots—where he secured a Super Bowl victory—followed by the Chicago Bears and the Atlanta Falcons before his latest time with Pittsburgh.
