Cori Bush Announces Bid for Congressional Comeback

Former Representative Kori Bush (D-Mo.) shared on Friday her plans to run for a seat in Missouri’s First Congressional District again.

“I entered Congress because I truly resonate with the working-class people of St. Louis. I made a promise to fight for St. Louis, and I believe we’ve made progress,” she stated.

Bush, who served in the House from 2021 to 2025 and was part of the progressive “Squad,” lost her primary election last year. She faced significant opposition, including substantial financial backing from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and others, aimed at supporting her competitors.

As a former nurse and community activist, Bush has been vocal in her criticism of Israel, facing a well-funded challenge from opponents.

In a statement made shortly after the deadly October 7, 2023, attacks in Israel, Bush expressed sorrow over the loss of lives among both Palestinians and Israelis. She also condemned the targeting of civilians in the conflict.

In her message, she called for an end to U.S. government support for what she described as Israeli occupation and apartheid.

Bush lost to her opponent, Bell, by nearly six points in the August 2024 primary. Given that Missouri’s House seats are often competitive for Democrats, Bell nearly secured victory in the general election.

In her campaign message, Bush remarked, “I spoke openly, and they retaliated. They went after my character, questioned my intentions, and spread lies about me.”

“I’m running again because St. Louis doesn’t wait for approval from wealthy donors and deserves leadership that stands firm during challenging times,” she added, seemingly directed at Bell.

In response, Bell took to social media to remark on Bush’s candidacy, asserting that she had already shown what voters thought of her when she lost in the last cycle.

“When it was time to show up for the community, Kori Bush was more focused on her national agenda, leaving our district neglected,” Bell stated.
