Cornell West Exits Piers Morgan’s Show Amid Controversy Over Charlie Kirk’s Assassination
Former independent presidential candidate, Cornell West, left “Piers Morgan’s Uncensored” on Monday after a heated exchange regarding Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, who was recently assassinated.
Kirk had spoken at a large event at Utah Valley University just days before his death, engaging in debates with students. West’s departure came following a tense discussion with host Andrew Wilson.
During the appearance, West remarked, “You’re very different to the Charlie brothers, the guy,” hinting at differences between himself and Kirk.
Wilson claimed that the rhetoric from individuals like West could have contributed to Kirk’s death, although it was tough to pinpoint the exact words due to West’s responding remarks. West rejected the notion that his speech played a role in Kirk’s assassination and appealed to Morgan to intervene as Wilson interrupted.
“Piers, why are there brothers who won’t allow anyone to speak? We just waste time,” West protested, explaining that he had conversations with Kirk and expressed his respect for him. He added that he was sending prayers for Kirk’s family, commenting on the absurdity of their situation.
As West stood up and continued to express his thoughts, Wilson pressed, asking whether he believed Kirk was part of a neo-fascist movement. Instead of answering directly, West criticized Kirk’s views on race, questioning if opposition to civil rights laws implied support for Jim Crow policies.
West accused Wilson of arrogance, stating that such attitudes contributed to the ongoing issues. Although Morgan urged West to sit down and continue the discussion, he refused, expressing frustration at the lack of productive dialogue.
On Friday, authorities arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, linking him to Kirk’s murder. Utah’s Republican Governor, Spencer Cox, reported that anti-fascist messages were found on ammunition related to the shooting, with slogans targeting fascism.
Former Democratic strategist Dan Trenine addressed his party during a meeting, suggesting they reconsider labeling Trump as “fascist” in light of the assassination. Trenine emphasized the importance of accurately representing political views, arguing that calling Trump Hitler was both poor politics and inaccurate.
