Cornyn anticipates hardship for Trump in the last two years of his term

Cornyn Warns of Political Troubles Ahead

Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn has expressed concerns about a potential “disaster” in the upcoming midterm elections. He also suggested that President Donald Trump may endure “the most harrowing two years of his life” as his presidency approaches its final stretch, according to reports from The New York Times.

Last month, Cornyn lost the Republican Senate primary runoff in Texas to Attorney General Ken Paxton, who had Trump’s endorsement. The outcome wasn’t even close; Paxton defeated Cornyn, who has been serving in the Senate since late 2002, by a significant margin.

Trump had supported Paxton as early voting commenced a week before the May 26 election. Cornyn remarked, “I really thought he just didn’t want to be involved in it because it’s been going on for so long without any support.” But, evidently, Trump couldn’t resist taking a stance.

He then added, “If he could do that to me, he would do it to anyone. There’s never going to be enough for him. We have no choice but to go along 100 percent with what he wants.” Cornyn reflected on the nature of a senator’s role, emphasizing the need for checks and balances.

On May 27, Trump shared on Truth Social that Cornyn “will continue to be my friend” and described him as someone “respected by all.” Cornyn, in response, said, “When your friends treat you like that, you wonder about your enemies.”

Cornyn anticipates tougher times ahead, mentioning, “It’s definitely going to get more expensive in Texas and it’s going to get harder across the country.” He believes that Trump will eventually regret certain choices, suggesting that November could be particularly damaging. “I’m not saying this with any vengeance,” he clarified, “but I just think it’s going to happen.” Ultimately, he stated, “I think he’s going to have the worst two years of his life in the last two years of his term.”
