A sushi chef from Nobu, Ryo Uchimiya, tragically lost his life in a car accident, suffering from “multiple blunt force injuries,” as determined by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office.
The incident occurred early Saturday morning when a 16-year-old driver, speeding in a Range Rover SUV, struck Uchimiya’s parked vehicle on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, where he was sleeping inside.
The medical examiner has classified Uchimiya’s death as accidental.
No arrests had been reported as of early Sunday.
Jefferson “Zuma Jay” Wagner, a former mayor of Malibu and local surf shop owner, mentioned that he often sees perilous situations involving drivers and cyclists along PCH, particularly near Nobu. “I’m right across the street from Nobu. I see it all the time,” he shared with The California Post. “They get out, they don’t look in their mirrors. They hit the cyclists, run into car doors.”
