Corey Bowman, 36, is officially running for mayor of Cincinnati, backed by his half-brother, Vice President J.D. Vance. The two share their father, and Vance publicly endorsed his brother on social media, describing him as “a good guy with the heart to serve his community.”
Bowman, who is also a pastor at a local Protestant church, will be facing off against the current mayor, Aftab Pureval, in the upcoming November general election. He secured 12.91% of the votes in the primary, placing second to Pureval, while surpassing a third candidate, Republican Brian Frank.
Bowman cited attending the inauguration of Trump and Vance as his inspiration to run for office. However, he emphasized to the Associated Press that his political path is uniquely his own. “When it comes to my relationship with JD, I tell people he is my brother. [but] He’s not a political counselor to me. He’s not the one who planted me in this city,” he stated. He added that his decision to enter politics came from his desire to make a difference, indicating that he wasn’t pressured into it by family.
