Costco Reintroduces Kirkland Signature Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
A beloved item from Costco’s baking section is making a comeback after being off the shelves for two years, much to the delight of many customers who had eagerly awaited its return.
Costco has decided to bring back the Kirkland Signature Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips, which disappeared in July 2024 due to escalating cocoa prices that made it tough for retailers to offer competitive pricing.
These chocolate chips are part of Costco’s Kirkland Signature private label. After they were discontinued, the warehouse introduced Nestlé’s Toll House chocolate chips as a substitute. However, some customers expressed dissatisfaction with this change and chose not to buy the Nestlé options.
Excited Reactions from Shoppers
Recently, Costco members have started spotting the familiar red bags of Kirkland chocolate chips in stores, triggering a wave of happy reactions from shoppers online.
“This is fantastic news! I just checked the app after visiting last week and saw they’re back!” one user shared on Reddit.
Another commented, “I saw these yesterday at Costco in Milford, CT. So thrilled!”

The Return of a Favorite Product
Some users noted that the return couldn’t have come at a better time, especially as their last bags were nearly empty. “I was really worried because I refused to buy Nestlé products! Just perfect timing,” one user said.
Another recalled having to pay a premium for Ghirardelli chips during the last holiday season, expressing relief now that Kirkland chips are back. “Everything else was just disappointing, especially the Nestlé ones,” they added.
Kirkland chocolate chips can also be purchased online, as indicated on Costco’s website.
Prices for a 4.5-pound bag vary by location, typically ranging from $11.99 to almost $14, which is a bit higher than in previous years—one Reddit user pointed out a photo from 2021 showing a price of $7.99 for the same bag.
Even with this price increase, the Kirkland version is still less expensive than the Nestlé option, which retails for $16.99 for a similar size.
There is some uncertainty about whether Costco will phase out the Nestlé bags now that Kirkland’s chocolate chips are back in stock, or if both will remain available. The future of the blue Kirkland bags remains unclear.
Costco typically does not announce the return of Kirkland products publicly.
