Costco Safety Alert for Kirkland Prosecco
Costco has announced a safety alert regarding Kirkland’s Prosecco Valdo bottles.
Retailers have notified members who purchased this sparkling wine between April 25 and August 26, 2025, across 11 Midwest states, that there’s a risk of glass explosion.
Customers in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin are advised to immediately dispose of any unopened bottles.
Costco’s warning stated, “Don’t open. We’ll dispose of the bottle immediately to avoid the risk of the glass being crushed.”
The company recommended wrapping the bottles in paper towels, sealing them in plastic bags, and disposing of them in the trash.
In this case, the bottles cannot be returned to Costco stores as you might expect with other recalls.
However, members can obtain a full refund by taking a warning letter to their nearest location.
This alert specifically concerns item #1879870, but Costco has not disclosed how many cases are impacted.
For any questions, Ethica Wines, the distributor of the Prosecco, can be reached at Customercare@ethicawines.com or (786) 810-7132, available weekdays from 8 AM to 6 PM.
Costco expressed its apologies for the inconvenience caused to its customers.
In another development, Costco has officially started implementing a new policy that allows only executive members early shopping hours.
This change, which took effect on June 30 during the Blessing Period, is fully in force as of August 31. Executive members, who pay $130 annually, can access the store an hour earlier on weekdays and Sundays.
In contrast, Goldstar and business members, who pay $65, do not get the advantage of these extended hours.
Costco claims that the policy aims to reward loyal customers and help reduce overcrowding. However, it has faced criticism from both employees and members.
On platforms like Reddit, many customers have voiced concerns that recent hiring freezes and reduced hours will complicate early access.
Some users also compared Costco’s new policy to Sam’s Club’s tiered access system, noting the different membership costs and benefits.
Despite the feedback, Costco has reiterated that the enforcement of this policy is strict, with no room for flexibility.
