F&F Fine Wines International, a U.S. importer and distributor of premium wines, has recalled over 900,000 bottles of Kirkland Prosecco. This action follows a warning from Costco about the potential for unopened bottles to spontaneously break.
This recall concerns certain glass bottles of Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG, which might “crack or shatter, posing a laceration risk,” as stated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The recall was initiated after F&F received ten reports of bottles breaking, including one incident that resulted in a laceration injury.
These bottles are distinguishable by their green glass, purple foil at the top, and purple labels that say “Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG.”
Federal regulators noted that the UPC code is 196633883742, with the Costco product number being 1879870.
Costco sold these affected bottles in several states, including Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and others, for about $8 each from April 2025 to August 2025.
Previously, in a September warning letter, Costco had informed consumers about recalling Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene due to these safety concerns.
The CPSC has urged consumers to stop using the recalled bottles immediately. They recommend disposing of them in household trash and contacting Esica Wines to learn how to obtain a full refund from Costco.
Efforts are currently underway to gather comments from Ethika Wines and Costco regarding the situation.
