Could Saquon Barkley actually win NFL MVP? Oddsmakers suggest yes

Saquon Barkley has skyrocketed up the MVP odds rankings since posting the best game of his career on “Sunday Night Football.”

The former Giants and Eagles star running back has skyrocketed to +500 odds to win the NFL MVP award on DraftKings, up from 75/1 on FanDuel earlier this week.

He trails Bills quarterback Josh Allen (+150) and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (+250).

Barkley had the best performance of his career against the Rams, totaling 302 yards and two touchdowns in the Eagles' 37-20 victory.

The former No. 2 pick of the Giants signed with the Eagles in free agency in 2018 and is scheduled to make $13.5 million this season, with the potential to make another $3 million if he continues to perform well.

Barkley's outstanding performance also pushed his odds to win Offensive Player of the Year from +120 at BetMGM, clearing him of favorite status at -300 odds.

He previously had a close battle with Ravens running back Derrick Henry, who was also acquired in free agency.

Barkley is currently projected to have 2,151 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, which would set a new single-season rushing record.

Only eight players have rushed for more than 2,000 yards in a season, most recently Henry in 2020.

Eric Dickerson holds the record for rushing yards with 2,105 in 1984.

The move in MVP odds came when Doug Kezirian of the Post advised readers to bet on Barkley to win the NFL MVP award at odds of 75/1.

But Mr Barclay claimed the award was ahistorical.

A running back hasn't won the NFL MVP award since Adrian Peterson won it in 2012 with 2,097 rushing yards.

If Barkley achieves that level of success with City of Brotherly Love, it could be very difficult to deny him the hardware.
