Councilman Claims Jacksonville City Established a Gun Registry

Councillor Nick Howland from Jacksonville, Florida, has reported that the city has been collecting data and keeping gun registrations since July 2023.

Howland mentioned to Action News that this information was gathered regarding individuals who entered certain city buildings while armed.

According to him, security personnel have compiled names, personal details, and the types of firearms carried by individuals entering City Hall and the Yates buildings, with the data kept in notebooks.

“These notebooks have been collecting this information for two years. Florida is an unregistered state, which makes this a clear violation of state law,” Howland stated.

He added that the state attorney’s office is looking into these allegations, indicating that Mayor Donna Deegan’s office has received a subpoena from the state attorney’s office and has complied.

In Florida politics, it has been reported that Howland, as the chairman of the Rules Committee, has called for meetings with the “mayor’s office, general advisory office, and public works department” this week to discuss the allegedly illegal firearms registrations maintained for nearly two years at both City Hall and the Yates building.
