On Sunday night, Jelly Roll, a country artist and rapper, celebrated his first Grammy win by expressing his faith in Jesus Christ.
After receiving the Grammy for Best Contemporary Country Album, Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Deford, took to the stage to share his gratitude and faith.
“I know they want to move me along, so let me get to it. First off, Jesus, I hear you, I hear the Lord,” he began.
“Next, I must thank my amazing wife. Without you, I wouldn’t be here today. I could have ended up dead or in jail. If it weren’t for you and Jesus, I might not be here at all,” he continued.
Following acknowledgments to his record label and producers, he emphasized the importance of salvation through Jesus Christ.
“There was a time when I felt utterly lost. That’s what inspired this album. I didn’t think I had a future. There were days filled with dark thoughts. I was making poor choices. At one point, all I had was a Bible this big, and a radio the same size, and a tiny sail, but I believed those could turn my life around,” he shared.
“I had faith that music and God could transform my life. I want to emphasize: Jesus is for everyone. He belongs to no political group or music label. Jesus is for all, and anyone can connect with Him. Lord, I love you,” he concluded.
His message came a week after he declared “Jesus is for everyone” during a live Netflix appearance. Recently, he also received a full pardon from the state of Tennessee concerning his past criminal record.
“Governor Bill Lee recognized Jason Deford’s journey of recovery from addiction and incarceration, highlighting his soul-searching, songwriting, and advocacy for second chances,” it was reported.
“From speaking to those in correctional facilities to concert audiences, the rapper-turned-singer has been open about his journey of redemption,” it added.
