Country Music Star Todd Snyder Passes Away at 59

Todd Snyder, a well-known figure in the alt-country scene, has died at the age of 59 after a struggle with an undisclosed illness. He was celebrated for songs like “Alright Guy” and “Just Like Old Times.”

Snyder’s passing was confirmed in a post shared by his record label, Aimless, Inc., on Friday. The label expressed a profound sense of loss, questioning, “Where are the words for someone who always had the right words?” The statement acknowledged his talent for expressing complex emotions through both humor and poignant lyrics.

His songs brought comfort to many, evoking feelings of familiarity and warmth, like “old friends and favorite blankets.” The label further noted his ability to find laughter amid life’s chaos.

In their tribute, the label emphasized how much kindness and insight Snyder shared through his music, teaching listeners to view the world from different perspectives. Each day began for him with songwriting, as he strived to carve out his space among the legends of the genre who had guided him throughout his career.

Recently, Snyder’s family revealed that he was diagnosed with pneumonia during his hospitalization in Hendersonville, Tennessee. His condition deteriorated due to complications, prompting a transfer to a different facility.

During this time, the family encouraged fans to offer prayers and support, reminding them how much Snyder had endured in his life and how he needed their strength now more than ever.

This tragic news comes shortly after the cancellation of his tour, aimed at promoting his latest album, “High Lonesome and Then Some,” which had been released in October. The tour was canceled following an incident in Salt Lake City where he was reportedly assaulted.

Complicating matters, following his treatment at Holy Cross Hospital, Snyder was arrested for causing a disturbance, yelling at staff, and allegedly threatening them, resulting in various charges.

Originally from Oregon, Snyder drew inspiration from music legends like Kris Kristofferson and John Prine. He began his music career under Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville label, releasing his debut albums in the mid-’90s. Beyond his own work, he wrote for several prominent artists and even collaborated with Loretta Lynn on her 2016 album.
