Almost three years after filing for divorce from husband Jay Barker – who was arrested months later after allegedly hitting her with his truck – Sarah Evans has revealed that they are back together.
In the first episode of her new podcast, “Diving in Deep with Sara Evans,” the country star talks about her tumultuous past relationship with her husband of 15 years, the events leading up to his arrest, and how they He talked about how he was able to get married. Rekindle their romance.
“The scary thing about today is [is] “I said things that I might regret, I said things that I might embarrass my children, I said things that I might embarrass my family,” Evans said, before answering “questions on everyone’s mind.” I stepped in.

Ms Evans, who first separated from Ms Barker in 2020 after “a really bad fight that went on and on and on and on”, said her husband had become “addicted to being her boss”. “It was a one-sided, volatile relationship with a lot of passion,” Ms Evans added, adding that she admitted she was “abusive” in her marriage.
In January 2022, the pair met for lunch, but things turned sour when Mr Barker “didn’t get his way”.
“He wanted me to be the usual Sarah and do whatever I wanted. … He was really upset,” she recalled.
Later that night, Ms Evans, who had gone to a neighbor’s house with one of her daughters for a bonfire, said Mr Barker had been “texting her all night” accusing her of “destroying our family”. .

“It was really scary for me and it was scary for all of us, especially the kids who were with us,” she said on the podcast. “So, a friend of ours was driving me, and we were getting ready to pull into the driveway, and…he got into an argument with my child. The child was driving his I had never seen that side of her before, and it scared the child–out of her.”
“Then he jumped in the truck and [was] It’s like backing up very fast. Knowing Jay, I didn’t feel like he was my own child. Evans’ daughter immediately called 911 before Barker hurried away.
“My child was more upset than I was because I had been through this personally with Jay for 14 years. It was the first time she had ever seen her father like that,” she said. .

Barker eventually returned to his home and was arrested at the scene.
“I felt so embarrassed and so stupid, and my child was so angry,” she said.
Ms Evans said she thought this was the end of her marriage to Mr Barker and that it was ‘not going to work’.

“I kept getting phone calls and I was like, ‘I can’t believe this is happening to me and my kids again. I’ve lost the love of my life,'” she said. “To me, he’s just gorgeous, he’s funny, and we have a lot in common. We feel the same way about parenting, family structure, politics, religion, everything. We just love each other. I We are best friends.”

A few months later, Barker contacted Evans via text message, and the two slowly began rekindling their relationship under a few conditions. The couple will be going to therapy and marriage counseling “for the rest of their lives.”
“I didn’t want to go through another divorce and start over,” she said. “I imagined myself alone and missing him and thinking, ‘I could have tried harder.’ But for him to realize, ‘Oh, she’s serious, this is it.’ I think it took until I filed for divorce.”
