Country star Darius Rucker falls face-forward during concert performance, jokes he’s ‘old’

Darius Rucker continued his strong times after an unfortunate slip and hitting the floor at a concert over the weekend.

Rucker, who performs with his band Hootie and the Blowfish at the annual Riverfront Revival in Charleston, South Carolina, didn't let travel stop him from playing shows.

The 58-year-old singer had just begun singing her 2009 hit “Alright.” Video taken by a fan, when he appeared to clip the monitor between his legs and fall forward onto the stage.

Mr. Rucker immediately joked, “I'm getting old now.”

Later in the show, the “Wagon Wheel” singer addressed the elephant in the room and made fun of him for tripping on stage.

“We've been doing this all summer,” he said. “I've never fallen, but I did in my hometown.”

Hootie & the Blowfish reunited this year for a tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of their highly successful album Cracked Rear View.

Hootie & the Blowfish released four more studio albums before going on hiatus in 2008, leaving Rucker to pursue a completely different genre: country music.

Rucker hasn't stopped recording as a solo artist either. He released his eighth solo album, Carolyn's Boy, in 2023, which was dedicated to his late mother, who passed away in 1992, just as Hootie was gaining momentum.

“She was my biggest cheerleader and biggest supporter,” he said. “Our faith is something we were taught at a young age and it's always within us. So she means everything to me.”
