Lee Greenwood Prepares for Military Parade Performance

Country music legend Lee Greenwood joined Breitbart News Daily on Thursday to discuss his upcoming performance alongside President Donald Trump at a military parade, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the U.S. military.

Greenwood is set to participate in a large parade where he will perform his iconic song “God Bless the USA,” honoring the military’s contributions to the nation.

The host, Mike Slater, welcomed Greenwood to Washington and remarked on his patriotic spirit. Greenwood expressed his pride, stating, “When you can associate the word patriot with me, that’s where I want to be.”

Slater inquired about Greenwood’s feelings toward witnessing “an incredible army that has done so much for our country.” Greenwood described it as a tremendous honor to be part of the parade, expressing gratitude for the U.S. Army’s service over the past 250 years.

“All these soldiers you know are marching, you see their faces—dedication, determination, discipline. It’s great to be there,” he said. He also added, perhaps lightheartedly, that it coincides with his wife’s birthday, tying personal celebrations into the event.

Slater continued the conversation, asking about Greenwood’s optimism regarding the country. Greenwood noted that America inherently symbolizes hope and positivity. “I’ve always been optimistic,” he shared. “As a young boy, I was at the Junior Optimist Club. I tend to see the glass as half full, which gives me a thrill when I’m performing. It’s great to make people smile.”

Greenwood continued, saying that his music has always been a source of joy, whether in Nashville or Las Vegas. “It’s nothing but magical for me,” he added, reflecting on the positive spirit of the United States.

Performing gives Greenwood an adrenaline rush, and he feels energized as soon as he steps on stage. “Even if I feel tired before a show, once I’m up there—the adrenaline kicks in. It’s not routine,” he explained. He also expressed his gratitude for being close to the audience and sharing moments with the people at the parade, including performing for the president, which he finds incredibly exciting.
