Couple gets married at RiverSpring nursing home in the Bronx

A Unique Wedding Celebration

A successful marriage takes patience, right?

On Thursday, a pair of lovebirds tied the knot at a nursing home situated in the Bronx. Amidst fellow residents, family members, staff, and even therapy dogs, Al Cappiero, 76, and 51-year-old Elizabeth Brie exchanged vows and shared their first kiss as a married couple at Riverspring Living.

“Everything is possible. You can find love anywhere. Age is just a number,” Cappiero expressed, reflecting on their new commitment.

“I’m very lucky. I’m so, so happy,” replied Brie, who hails from Harlem.

The couple meticulously planned their ceremony in the banquet room, choosing details from a Greek-style backdrop to a rich purple tablecloth that complemented Brie’s wedding dress.

Other residents took on roles as groomsmen and bridesmaids, while Daisy, the beloved therapy dog, acted as a flower girl, leading the way down the aisle ahead of Brie.

This wedding marks the first for both Cappiero and Bly. They crossed paths in 2023 when Brie admitted herself into the facility for leg rehabilitation.

Cappiero was already a familiar face around the home, often a part of the “Golden Guys,” a humorous group known for their card games. He felt an instant connection with Brie and made it a point to get to know her better, even though she initially viewed him as “quiet and shy.”

Brie was uncertain about Cappiero’s intentions, but eventually opened up to him and welcomed him as a friend, especially when he became a permanent resident.

Their friendship blossomed into romance, leading to an engagement on Brie’s birthday last July, when Cappiero presented her with a butterfly engagement ring.

Cappiero’s journey into love isn’t new; he had a significant relationship for seven years prior with another resident, Gloria, which ended heartbreakingly with her passing. “I’m extremely happy. This is the second time he’s found love here. I never thought he would find love again. I start crying when I think about it,” said a source close to him.

Despite their newfound love later in life, both Cappiero and Brie maintained hope for a future together. However, questions remain about whether they will live together in the nursing home. “We’re not at that point. We have to understand that!” Brie said, highlighting their cautious approach to this next chapter.
