Saru Iacono, known as “Cousin Sal” on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, hinted over the weekend that there are still more surprises to come from the ongoing situation involving Kimmel.
After Kimmel was put on an indefinite hiatus due to controversial comments regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Iacono shared some thoughts on “The Bill Simmons Podcast.” “I could say anything,” he remarked, reassuring that they’re still anticipating some unexpected developments.
Iacono didn’t elaborate much but suggested last week was quite “tumultuous,” even mentioning that the families spent time together recently, potentially discussing the pressing issues.
At one point, Iacono’s children were hesitant to engage Kimmel over the matter, but the middle child finally broke the ice. “A senior in high school, Jack delivered his question in a deadpan manner,” Iacono recounted.
“Jimmy responded, ‘What did you say?’ and Jack replied, ‘Yeah, I think you’re right,'” Iacono added, reflecting on the exchange.
Kimmel faced backlash after mistakenly asserting that the “Maga gang” was trying to label Kirk’s assassin as something other than part of their group. He also criticized Trump supporters for using the murder of the conservative figure for political gain.
Tyler Robinson, 22, is alleged to have fatally shot Kirk from a distance of 200 yards on the campus of Utah Valley University on September 10th. Law enforcement suggests that Robinson had been influenced by left-wing ideologies prior to the incident.
Iacono mentioned there’s no new information regarding the show’s future at this moment. “I know too much, and it’s very emotional,” he shared, while Simmons noted that the team behind the show has not discussed the situation broadly.
Sources have indicated that a Disney executive is working on plans to get Kimmel back on air, although there are possibilities he might decide to leave altogether.
