Trump Discusses Arrest of Venezuela’s Maduro

President Donald Trump has shared more details regarding the U.S. operation that led to the arrest of Venezuela’s former socialist leader, Nicolas Maduro.

During a recent interview, Trump described the “secret weapon” utilized in the January 3 assault, which reports indicated was highly successful and resulted in no American casualties.

He mentioned that a unique device had been “created,” though he described it as a “discombobulator.” “I’m not allowed to talk about it,” he said, but then expressed a desire to share more. He also noted, “They had Russian and Chinese rockets, but they never fired. We arrived, they pressed the button, and nothing worked. Everything was ready for us.”

Following the attack, Trump confirmed that both Maduro and his wife had been captured and subsequently fled the country.

Maduro, who has maintained his position through a series of disputed elections, is wanted by U.S. authorities for several drug-related terrorism charges. The U.S. government is offering a $50 million reward for information leading to his arrest or conviction.

A U.S. court in 2020 labeled Maduro as a leader of the Sunshine Cartel, an organization involved in international cocaine trafficking that aimed to inundate the U.S. with drugs.

Maduro has denied the drug-terrorism allegations and has claimed to be a “decent human being.”

Weeks following the airstrike, Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López asserted that Venezuela served as a “testing ground for the use of unknown weapons” in the operation aimed at capturing Maduro.

In another context, Trump made remarks about this secret weapon amidst reports that the Biden administration had acquired a pulse-energy weapon, which is speculated to be related to the so-called “Havana Syndrome.”

According to reports, Maduro’s men experienced unusual symptoms during the operation, including bleeding from the nose and vomiting, while their radar system inexplicably malfunctioned.
