Cowboys Bolster Defense with Trade for Logan Wilson

The Dallas Cowboys are making moves to strengthen a defense that has struggled significantly this season.

On Tuesday, the team announced that they have acquired linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for a seventh-round pick in the 2026 draft. Wilson, who is 29, had asked for a trade due to a decrease in his playing time. He is currently in the second year of a four-year contract extension he signed back in July 2023, reportedly worth $36 million.

Now in his sixth NFL season, Wilson has consistently made a mark on the field, recording over 100 tackles in each of the last four seasons. Interestingly, the Cowboys’ defense has been underperforming, going from allowing the most yards per game in the league (426.6 yards) to now sitting second (397.4 yards). Currently, they hold a record of 3-5-1 even though their offense ranks fourth in scoring, averaging 29.2 points per game.

The Cowboys recently faced the Arizona Cardinals, losing 27-17 despite quarterback Jacoby Brissett’s solid performance, where he completed 21 of 31 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns. On the other side, the Cardinals’ running backs combined for a strong showing, rushing for 106 yards on 19 carries.

In light of these developments, Troy Aikman, a former Cowboys quarterback and current ESPN analyst, expressed skepticism about whether one player could truly shift the defense’s fortunes, especially considering that this season has seen five different teams score season-high points against the Cowboys.

With a bye week ahead, the Cowboys will have two weeks to assess Wilson’s impact before their next game on November 17 against the struggling Las Vegas Raiders, who currently have a 2-6 record.
