The Dallas Cowboys Claim Victory Over the Philadelphia Eagles
The matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles on “Monday Night Football” was, well, not quite what anyone expected. With both teams starting the season at 2-4, the stakes somehow reached a critical point in Week 7, highlighting a moment where one team had a chance to turn things around in a division that appears to be up for grabs.
Entering the game, the Cowboys had a different narrative. They were portrayed as having the right pieces, yet questions lingered about the coaching. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer’s status was a point of concern, especially after the Cowboys faced a challenging start with two consecutive losses in primetime. They didn’t want to make it a trifecta against a Philadelphia team that was also struggling.
Nick Sirianni, the head coach of the Eagles, who had previously celebrated a Super Bowl victory, has faced criticism from fans during the 2026 season. This criticism was perhaps exacerbated by the fact that quarterback Jalen Hurts was sidelined due to blood clots, though he was back in a limited capacity on Monday night. Running back Saquon Barkley, once a star, continued to struggle with injuries.
After starting the season strong, the Eagles lost four straight games, leaving some fans contemplating a tanking strategy for future draft picks. The Cowboys, however, seemed to be in a different place, with fans just hoping the coaching staff could unite the team effectively on both offense and defense.
For Dak Prescott and the Cowboys’ offense, they managed to score points consistently, benefiting significantly from their run game. This isn’t a team keen on passing the ball excessively, despite Prescott’s experience in doing so. Running back Javonte Williams had an impressive performance, rushing for 155 yards on 25 carries, including a touchdown that punctuated the game, which showcased his agility against the Philadelphia defense.
Even CeeDee Lamb, despite only catching five of his twelve targets, was impactful. Two of those receptions were for touchdowns. He tallied 74 yards, while George Pickens also contributed with a touchdown from a 21-yard pass by Prescott. Their third wide receiver, Ryan Flournoy, added another 70 yards through four receptions.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. The Cowboys’ defense raised some eyebrows, especially against the Eagles’ offense. The game began with a glimmer of hope for the Philly crowd as they awaited Barkley’s return. In just four plays, he reminded everyone of his explosive potential with a notable 29-yard run, ultimately scoring the Eagles’ first touchdown.
The Eagles’ attack seemed revitalized, but Barkley was still not at full strength, battling a back injury that limited him throughout the game. He was spotted trying to manage his discomfort, illustrating the ongoing struggles with injuries. The contest turned into a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading touchdowns and showcasing some impressive drives. Dameon Pierce found the end zone for the Eagles, and rookie Makai Lemon added his first career touchdown, briefly giving Philadelphia a 21-20 lead.
At that point, Prescott quickly answered with his own touchdown pass to Lamb. The Cowboys pulled ahead after forcing a Philadelphia punt and capitalizing on a brilliant interception by DeMarvion Overshown, snatching a pass meant for Dallas Goedert during a fourth-quarter drive.
With the Eagles now sitting at 2-5, it may be premature to label their season as a total failure, but it’s clear they’ve encountered significant obstacles. The narrative isn’t great for them right now.
In contrast, the Cowboys remain in contention at 3-4, just a game-and-a-half behind the New York Giants, who bested them in Week 1. With upcoming games against the Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts, there’s a real possibility for the Cowboys to start a winning streak, which might alleviate some pressure on their coaching staff.
