Cowboys Edge Chiefs in Thanksgiving Thriller

The Dallas Cowboys pulled off a nail-biting 31-28 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs, securing their spot in the NFC playoffs. This win comes as the Cowboys, now at 6-5-1, needed a boost heading into a short week.

Last Sunday, they achieved a significant win against the reigning conference champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. On the other hand, the Chiefs improved to a .500 record at 6-6 after a notable win over the Indianapolis Colts.

The game started on a shaky note for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys. Prescott threw an interception early, which was intercepted by Jalen Watson. It seemed like a tough day was ahead, especially with the Chiefs quickly capitalizing—Laci Rice, returning from suspension, caught a screen pass from Patrick Mahomes and sprinted 27 yards for a touchdown, putting Kansas City up 7-0.

But the Cowboys swiftly responded. Prescott led a 75-yard drive, culminating in a 15-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb, tying the game at 7-7. As former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo noted, it had the makings of a high-scoring shootout.

The Chiefs answered back with Mahomes orchestrating a meticulous drive, highlighted by a crucial fourth-and-goal play where Travis Kelce made a difficult catch, reclaiming the lead for Kansas City.

After a field goal from Dallas’ Brandon Aubrey, Malik Davis burst through the defense for a 43-yard touchdown run, flipping the score to 17-14 in favor of the Cowboys. The third quarter saw less action, yet the Chiefs managed another touchdown, with Rice scoring again, pushing the lead to 21-20.

However, Prescott wasn’t finished. He connected with George Pickens during a lengthy drive, ultimately resulting in a touchdown pass to running back Javonte Williams. The Cowboys went ahead 28-21 thanks to a two-point conversion from Pickens.

After forcing a three-and-out from the Chiefs, the Cowboys appeared poised to extend their lead. Yet, a fumble by Pickens following a catch nearly turned the tide in Kansas City’s favor. Thankfully, Kavonte Turpin jumped on the loose ball, allowing Aubrey to extend the lead with another field goal.

In the end, Mahomes led Kansas City on a 67-yard drive to score a touchdown, narrowing the gap to 31-28. Dallas then took control, needing a few first downs to end the game. Prescott completed a critical pass to Pickens, sealing the victory for the Cowboys.

Statistically, Prescott completed 27 of 39 passes for 320 yards and had two touchdown throws. CeeDee Lamb led the receivers with 112 yards on seven catches, while Pickens added 88 yards. On the Kansas City side, Mahomes was 23 of 34 for 261 yards with four touchdowns, and Rice contributed with eight receptions for 92 yards.
