Dallas Cowboys Face Offseason Dilemma
The Dallas Cowboys are riding high, but an important decision looms on the horizon. They recently traded for George Pickens, a talented yet troubled receiver from the Steelers. Now, after setting career highs and ranking second in the NFL with 1,142 receiving yards over just 12 games, the question is whether the Cowboys will re-sign him.
While no one can deny Pickens’ ability, his past issues in Pittsburgh make this a tricky decision. An anonymous source mentioned, “He’s not leaving,” when discussing Pickens’ potential free agency. It’s expected he might demand over $30 million a year, which could complicate things for the team.
If the Cowboys aren’t ready to meet those financial expectations, they might still find a way to keep him, possibly through other arrangements. Team owner Jerry Jones has expressed pride in Pickens, saying, “I’m proud of him having the kind of season he’s having. It’s beyond what we expected.” This speaks volumes about how they value his contribution.
Star quarterback Dak Prescott is clearly a fan as well. He mentioned, “I think that’s going to be a priority in the offseason.” Jokingly reflecting on the team dynamics, he added, “Did that come up now? Maybe you’re joking here and there… But I’m all for it.”
Coach Brian Schottenheimer also supported the notion of a long-term relationship with Pickens, stating he’s eager to see him continue with the team.
However, Pickens’ journey hasn’t been entirely smooth, primarily due to the instability at the quarterback position in the past. A source noted, “He might miss the team bus or be late, but they’ve got experience handling such matters since Dez Bryant was around.” The important takeaway, it appears, is that Pickens is committed to his role and works hard.
The Cowboys, with a current record of 6-5-1, are gearing up for a crucial matchup against the Lions, who sit at 7-5-1. This game could hold significant weight for their playoff aspirations.
