Cowboys extend DaRon Bland's contract for $92 million following Micah Parsons trade

The Dallas Cowboys have recently boosted their defensive lineup, making headlines just days after trading All-Pro player Mamika Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.

Cornerback Daron Brando has secured a significant four-year extension worth $92 million, which includes a hefty $50 million signing bonus, according to multiple reports.

This new deal gives Brando an average annual value of $23 million, placing him among the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL. He ranks sixth on the list, coming in just behind big names like Patrick Surtain II of the Denver Broncos and Sauce Gardner from the New York Jets.

In just his second year in the NFL, Brando had an impressive performance in 2023. He not only led the league in interceptions but also set a record for the most pick-sixes in a single season, totaling five returns for scores with nine interceptions overall.

Last season was unfortunately cut short for him due to a stress fracture in his leg, which sidelined him for ten games. He managed to return in November, participating in seven games before the end of the season.

During those games, Brando recorded 29 solo tackles and forced fumbles, showcasing his capability on the field. However, the trade involving Parsons has put many Cowboys fans in a reflective mood, as owner Jerry Jones recently confirmed the move.

The Cowboys not only acquired two first-round picks from the Packers, but they also brought in defensive tackle Kenny Clark to strengthen their run defense. At a press conference, Jones expressed his reasoning, claiming that the trade aligns with the team’s broader success strategy.

“We’re securing immediate contributions from new players, while these draft picks could potentially lead us to top Pro Bowl caliber athletes,” Jones noted.

There’s been quite a conversation around the reasoning behind this trade, and opinions are certainly mixed. Despite this, it’s clear that Brando has positioned himself as a dependable cornerback, and the Cowboys aren’t hesitating to secure his future with this extension.

If Brando hadn’t signed this new contract before the season, he would have entered free agency at the conclusion of the 2025 season.
