Dak Prescott replaced the injured Tony Romo during his rookie season in 2016, leading the Dallas Cowboys to eight straight wins and solidifying his status as the team’s starting quarterback.

Prescott’s eight years as a starting quarterback in the NFL have been fruitful, especially in the regular season. The 30-year-old is entering the final year of his contract, which hits the estimated $59 million salary cap in 2024.

Prescott’s future in Dallas has been widely discussed in recent weeks, with some speculating that the Cowboys could go in a different direction at quarterback.

Cowboys legendary quarterback and three-time Super Bowl champion Troy Aikman weighed in, expressing optimism about Prescott’s long-term future in Dallas.

“I think he will, I don’t know, but I hear you guys on TV and on the radio. They have to fulfill their contracts, right? They have to free up some money, so he ‘I’m going to be here a little while longer, and I should be,'” Aikman said recently during an appearance at the Children’s Cancer Foundation’s “Knights to Remember” gala.

Aikman added that Prescott has shown he can play in the NFL and has a bright future.

“He’s proven he can play at a high level and we know we haven’t been good enough as a team in recent years, but he’s been a great player in this league and his best years are yet to come.” ”Aikman said.

Earlier this year, longtime Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the franchise was “fully committed” to Prescott.

“As we look at the important contracts that we want to work on going forward, we expect everything to fall into place,” Jones said at this year’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. If the Cowboys and Prescott’s agent are able to reach an agreement on a contract extension, it would likely reduce his high cap hit for the 2024 season.

Prescott finished the 2024 season with 4,516 passing yards, the second-highest total of his career. His touchdown-to-interception ratio also improved last year. He threw 36 touchdowns against nine interceptions in 2022 after throwing 15 interceptions in 12 regular season games.

The Cowboys finished with 12 wins for three years in a row, but have struggled in the postseason. The Packers upset Dallas in the wild-card round in January.

Aikman’s recent comments are just the latest in a series of tributes to Prescott from the legendary Cowboys player.

“I still believe in Dak,” Aichman said in January, shortly after a disappointing loss to Green Bay in the playoffs. “I feel like there’s always going to be criticism until you do it. I heard Peyton Manning didn’t win a playoff game in his first three years, but looking back now, I can’t imagine anyone doing that. “I doubt he can win a playoff game.”

Prescott recently expressed confidence that he and the franchise can reach an agreement on a contract extension.
