Cowboys respond after Micah Parsons requests a trade

Micah Parsons Trade Request Unlikely to be Honored by Cowboys

Micah Parsons has clearly expressed his wish to be traded from the Cowboys, but it seems the team has no intention of accommodating that request.

After Parsons made his trade request known on social media, athletic reporter Dianna Russini mentioned that the Cowboys are not looking to move their star defensive player. In addition, she noted that other NFL teams are still keeping tabs on Parsons’ situation, perhaps considering future interest.

Recognized as one of the top defensive talents in the league, Parsons, who is 26, has found himself in a contract dispute with the Cowboys this offseason. Currently, he’s entering the final year of his rookie contract and stands to earn $24 million in 2025 if he remains with Dallas without signing a lucrative extension.

In his statement, Parsons revealed that he directly submitted his trade request to Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones on Friday. He expressed dissatisfaction, stating, “Unfortunately, I don’t want to be here anymore.” He went on to mention concerns about being tied to negotiations without an agent, which led him to this challenging decision to step away from the Cowboys.

Previously, Parsons discussed leadership with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones back in March, which eventually veered into talks about his contract. He detailed that he conveyed his expectations for his future contract to Jones and mentioned that his agent would reach out afterward.

“In March, I met with Jones and talked about leadership,” Parsons recounted. “For some reason, the conversation turned to him discussing my contract. I was involved in conversations about what I wanted, but I didn’t think it was the right time for formal talks.” He felt misled when his agent later learned that the situation had changed.

As the Cowboys prepare for their season opener against the Eagles on September 4th, the uncertainty surrounding Parsons adds another layer to the upcoming games.
