Cowboys shut down star CeeDee Lamb for rest of season due to shoulder injury

CeeDee Lamb will not finish the season with the Dallas Cowboys. The team announced he was inactive due to a shoulder injury.

The team announced the move Thursday, announcing that Lamb will miss the remaining two games as he begins the recovery process from a shoulder injury he has had all season.

“Additional testing and scans of CeeDee Lamb's shoulder this week have determined that his injury has progressed to the point where he is listed as 'out.'

“He will undergo treatment and rehabilitation for his shoulder, but there are currently no plans to require surgery and he is expected to make a full recovery.”

Lamb was diagnosed with an AC joint injury in Week 9, but he played through it as Dallas tried to keep its playoff hopes alive.

Despite Dallas' win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, the Cowboys were eliminated from playoff contention.

So, with no playoff prospects in sight, the Cowboys want to prevent Lamb from further injury and start the process with a full recovery in 2025 in mind.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addressed Lamb's situation on 105.3 The Fan Tuesday.

“I'll leave it up to the players,” Jones said. It is unclear what Lam's intentions were with this decision to close by the end of the year.

“My shoulder is weird,” Lamb said of his injury after a 26-24 win over the Bucks this week.

“I'm just going out there and fighting and doing what I have to do,” Lamb said.

Lamb, who the Cowboys signed to a contract extension in the offseason, had 101 receptions for 1,194 yards and six touchdowns in 15 games, marking his fourth consecutive season with at least 1,110 yards.

Lamb hasn't been able to get Dak Prescott to pitch all season because the franchise quarterback also received a contract extension in the offseason, but he announced his season-ending loss earlier this season against the Atlanta Falcons. This is because he sustained an injury.

However, Lamb found chemistry with Cooper Rush, who took over as the starter as Prescott's backup. The Cowboys have won four of their last five games, but are 7-8 with two games left, not enough to clinch a spot in the NFC playoffs.
