Jerry Jones was determined to keep Brandon Aubrey around, especially given his remarkable kicking ability.
The Cowboys have inked a groundbreaking contract extension with Aubrey worth $28 million, which includes $20 million over the next four years. This move makes him the highest-paid kicker in NFL history, as reported by various sources.
Aubrey’s accuracy is impressive, but what really stands out is his powerful leg. He has successfully made 35 out of 44 kicks from 50 yards or more and consistently has at least one kick of 60 yards or more each season.
At 31, Aubrey was a standout soccer player during his time at Notre Dame and was even drafted in the first round by Toronto FC. But he never saw playtime with the MLS team and instead was loaned to Toronto FC II in the USL. He also had a stint with Bethlehem Steel in the USL before being released post the 2018 season.
Interestingly, Aubrey initially pursued a career as a software engineer. However, his wife, Jen, encouraged him to give football a shot.
Before entering the USFL, where he trained to become an NFL kicker, his wife expressed strong support for his transition.
From 2020 to 2023, Aubrey played three seasons in the USFL before making his way to the Cowboys in 2023.
His new contract eclipses the previous record held by Kaimi Fairbairn, who recently signed a two-year, $13 million deal with the Texans, and Harrison Butker’s four-year, $25.6 million agreement with the Chiefs in 2024.
Throughout his three seasons in Dallas, Aubrey established himself as the fifth most accurate kicker in NFL history, converting 88.19 percent of his kicks.
This contract secures Aubrey’s place with the Cowboys through the 2029 season. If all goes well with his health, he stands a good chance of becoming the team’s all-time leading scorer.
Aubrey has already accumulated 462 points during his time with the Cowboys, placing him sixth in the franchise’s history.
The all-time scoring record for the Cowboys is 986 points, held by running back Emmitt Smith since 2002.
With his current pace, Aubrey could find himself at the very top of the Cowboys’ record list by decade’s end.
