As the 2024 NFL season approaches, the Cowboys have added a former Pro Bowl player to their team.
Running back Dalvin Cook is set to sign with Dallas after playing for the Jets and Ravens last season, multiple reports reported Wednesday.
The 29-year-old visited with the Cowboys earlier this week and is reportedly expected to play on the practice squad.
Cook was selected to four consecutive Pro Bowls with the Vikings from 2019-2022 and signed a one-year contract with the Jets last August.
Cook was released by the Jets late last season and made little impact with the Jets as Breece Hall dominated the backfield.
He settled in Baltimore and appeared in the divisional playoff win over the Texans.
Cook had 67 carries for 214 yards and 15 catches for 78 yards in 15 games with the Jets.
After a year of splitting, the Cowboys brought back Ezekiel Elliott this year, and Dallas is hoping the pair of former star rushers past their primes will provide a capable ground attack behind the offensive line.
The 29-year-old Elliott spent seven seasons with the Cowboys, making three Pro Bowl appearances, before joining the Patriots last season as Dallas prioritized Tony Pollard, who then signed a three-year, $21.75 million contract with the Titans, reuniting Elliott with the Cowboys.
In 17 games with the Patriots, Elliott had 184 carries for 642 yards and three touchdowns, and also had 51 catches for 313 yards and two receiving scores.
Rico Dowdle, who appeared in 16 games for the Cowboys last season, was expected to have a larger role on the committee this season, but that could change if Cook returns to form.
On Monday, the Cowboys finally agreed to a four-year, $136 million contract extension with star receiver CeeDee Lamb.
