Cracker Barrel gives in to backlash over rebranding

Cracker Barrel Responds to Online Backlash Over Rebranding

After facing a week of significant online criticism regarding its rebranding strategy, Cracker Barrel has decided to revert to its original logo. This came after they had introduced a new, streamlined text-only design that eliminated the beloved “old timer” character.

In a statement to Fox Business, the company expressed its commitment to its customers. “We said we’d hear, and we have,” they noted, thanking patrons for their affection for the brand. They reiterated, “Our new logo will go away, and our ‘old timer’ will remain. Cracker Barrel has always aimed to provide delicious food, a warm welcome, and the kind of hospitality that feels like family.”

This decision drew connections to earlier comments made by President Donald Trump on True Social, where he stated that the restaurant chain needed to acknowledge customer feedback—a significant factor he emphasized as crucial. He urged them to conduct a substantial press conference to regain their standing.

As part of the rebranding effort, Cracker Barrel also announced plans to enhance the ambiance of its interiors, aiming for a more refined and modern look.

Interestingly, after the initial announcement of the logo change, the company’s stock suffered a dip of about 15% but has since recovered much of that ground.

Critics like Blaze Media co-founder Glenn Beck have spoken out against the rebranding efforts, suggesting that the new direction, which leans heavily on modern inclusivity, detracts from the nostalgia that many customers appreciate. He remarked that this shift could erase some foundational elements of the brand that resonate with customers.

Citing earlier statements from Cracker Barrel’s CEO, Julie Fels Masino, the brand’s intention seemed to be to connect more effectively with its audience. “As a proud American institution, our 70,000 hardworking employees look forward to welcoming you to our table soon,” the company concluded.
