Craig Carton recently criticized investigative reporter Pablo Torre for focusing on Tim Tebow in his report about Life Surge. Torre claimed that the organization, which has a Christian emphasis, used Tebow in a potentially exploitative business model, urging people to spend large sums for advice without guaranteeing any returns.
While Carton acknowledged Torre as a “brilliant investigative reporter,” he took issue with the implication that Tebow was aware of the organization’s questionable practices. He argued that unless Torre had solid evidence linking Tebow to these actions, it was unfair to involve him. Carton expressed, “Tim Tebow doesn’t deserve to be dragged into this unless you got him nailed. If you don’t have him nailed to the cross on this story, you have defamed him. If I’m Tim Tebow, I find that to be actionable. I find that to be regrettable.” This was said on an episode of OutKick’s “The Craig Carton Show.”
Following these allegations, Tebow announced that he would be “pausing” his relationship with Life Surge. He described the claims as “extremely serious” and indicated that his team would investigate further while suspending their association until more facts were gathered.
According to a report from Mother Jones, which worked with Torre on the investigation, Tebow had spoken at around 20 Life Surge events from 2024 to 2025 and was expected to participate in a similar number in 2026. While Carton didn’t dispute Torre’s investigation, he was critical of Torre’s approach, suggesting he was leveraging Tebow’s fame for personal gain.
Carton further stated, “You’re using Tim Tebow’s name and popularity to further your own career. Whether that story is accurate or not… we need to get district attorneys involved to see if they’re committing some type of predatory fraud against honest, God-fearing, blue-collar people who might be losing their life savings under the guise of religion.” He added that tarnishing Tebow’s reputation was unjust, especially considering Tebow’s historical dedication to helping others.
Carton emphasized that Torre’s reporting put Tebow in a precarious position, forcing him to respond publicly without clear evidence that he was complicit in any misconduct. This, Carton argued, could harm Tebow’s public image.
He concluded by stating, “When you go down that road and you sully the reputation of somebody who’s dedicated his entire life to service, that is a slippery slope that I want no part of.” Carton warned Torre to be certain of his allegations before tying Tebow’s name to them, admonishing, “Shame on you.”
